My first purebred GSD...
My friend....
My protector....

He made me feel safe when home alone.....
He made me laugh when my heart was sad....
He kept me warm when nights were cold......

He taught me patience........
He brought the world of the fancy to me.....
He made a dream come true.

I regret that he did not get his CD....he knew all the exercises...
Mom was just always off doing "more important things"

I am thankful for the morning preceeding his death....
We took a long walk together and sat by the lake looking at the
beauty and talking....he loved the geese. I will always
cherish that memory.

12 short hours later....I screamed with agony in the parking lot of
the vet hospital...as they brought out the shell of my baby.
All I had to grasp was his collar....

"carpe deim~~ seize the day"

Nature’s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower, but only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf, so Eden sank to grief,
So dawn turns down to day....Nothing gold can stay.

"His body , wasted by the sickness,
his spirit weary from the battle,
he spoke to me forever his *friend*,
of all the things  save death:
I longed to face it with him,
but seeing his fear, I feared to speak of it.
and though we both saw deaths irresistible
form in the far  corner,
we talked instead of evening shadows
on bedroom walls.

And so it went.
There were no proud and profound last words,
no bright ringing  final moment of clarity.
He just died...
We kissed his still warm face
and promised forever....
A cool breeze blew through
*my* backyard....
and I looked for meaning"

Written for his father...I found it  very touching....
I changed a couple words which were the words
*son* and *fathers'*  to suit I hope he does not mind....
Thank you  Rick
